School of Joy

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF JOY

The idea for School of Joy (SOJ) was conceptualised in 2009. The first SOJ was founded in 2010 by Esther Ng and her then-Cambodian Tour Guide, Paul. Now Paul is the Manager of SOJ, who is committed to teaching English & basic computer skills. With better English, it helps our Cambodian children secure better jobs and break out of the poverty cycle.

SOJ serves about 300 children for free. It employs 15 Khmer teachers, 1 Administration/Accounts clerk, and a Principal. It also gives support and training to the staff as they strive to advance their careers.

FINANCIAL NEED

SOJ needs USD 4,000 a month to run optimally, for study materials, staff salary, utility bills and much needed refurbishments.

Currently SOJ is funded by a handful of individuals, which is not sustainable and insufficient most of the time.

The school is not self-sufficient yet as it does not impose school fees on the students' families, and is heavily dependent on random love gifts and pledges.

DONATION

CDPC targets to raise funds to sponsor a year's worth of school fees for 40 children. The school fee for one child per year is about MYR 500. Hence we hope to raise MYR 20,000 every year.

If you would like to contribute, please bank in your donation to:

Please indicate "SOJ", or email your funds transfer receipt to inquiry@cdpc.org.my

All funds tagged "SOJ" will be channeled to this school. If the collection exceeds our target, it will increase the number of children entitled for school fees exemption.
