Discussion Questions
Opening Question: Share an example of a time you were given false expectations—and fell for it.
- Peter had false expectations and therefore could not comprehend a suffering Messiah (Mk 8:32). Have others around you reacted negatively to the weakness and shame of the cross? Have you ever been tempted to “tone down” the cross’ weakness and shame so Christianity can appear more “credible” in response?
- How do you feel about people jockeying for positions in churches / Christian organisations (cf. Mk 9:34; 10:37)? Do you personally find it challenging to be the “very last,” and “servant of all” (9:35)?
- The resurrection completely changed the disciples’ lives (cf. Peter’s speech in Acts 2:32-41). What are some life decisions you might do differently considering our coming resurrection and permanent residence in God’s coming Kingdom?
