  1. The "cultivated olive tree" (Rom 11:17-24) represents Israel as God's chosen nation through which He carries out His plan to redeem the world. When we become a Christian, we are "grafted" into this tree. Explore some implications for our identity as Christians.

  2. Baptism ("circumcision") and the Lord's Supper ("passover") are the two sacraments commanded by Jesus. How are they related in terms of helping us to live out our identity in Christ?

  3. The Ark of the Covenant (signifying God's presence) played a central role in Israel entering and possessing the Promised Land. Read Matt 28:18-20 in light of (1) and (2). Share any insight you may have.

  4. Discuss in what way(s) Matt 6:33 is a rephrasing of Deut 8:3b as quoted by Jesus (Matt 4:4)
